Tonight we rest at Owen Springs, spending a night 'Wayoutback' under the southern stars, complete with campfire and a hearty meal. Hike the “Ghost Gum Walk” before four wheel driving through the Owen Springs Reserve following the footsteps of the first European explorers. Travel off road to Ormiston Gorge, keep your eyes peeled for Perentie Lizards lazing along the banks and take a swim in the rock holes. Spend today exploring the mighty West MacDonnell Ranges. After Watarrka we 4WD along the famous Mereenie Loop Road where you will be shaken and not stirred! Spot wildlife along the way before arriving at our permanent camp at Glen Helen, near the stunning waterhole that the traditional owners of this land believe is home to an ancient and powerful Rainbow Serpent. Visit the Amphitheatre, Lost City and the tranquil ‘Garden of Eden’. This morning take a guided walk to see the towering walls, crevices and plateaus of Watarrka (Kings Canyon). Star gazing in Central Australia is what Outback travel is about. After a campfire dinner it's time to kick back and be mesmerised by the millions of stars on display. Our private campsite at Kings Creek is miles from the crowds, which is where the feeling of ‘wayoutback’ really starts to take hold. After a leisurely lunch we travel to Curtin Springs Cattle Station where there’s plenty of time to get a close look at a typical working cattle station before we travel to Kings Creek Station for our second night at a remote outback campsite. Enjoy breakfast, then travel to Kata Tjuta for a 7km hike through the magnificent "Valley of the Winds". Witness an impressive Uluru sunrise from a lookout close to our campsite. Enjoy a delicious meal, a couple of drinks and time to sit back to reflect on what you’ve seen on the first day of this Outback tour. View a magnificent Uluru sunset accompanied with a glass or two of sparkling wine before travelling to our remote campsite complete with safari tents. Note: Uluru is a sacred site and Anangu, the indigenous custodians, respectfully ask visitors not to climb it. Spend the afternoon at Uluru, which includes a visit to the Cultural Centre to learn about the Tjukurpa (Aboriginal law/religion), a full, guided base walk or a chance to climb (weather permitting) should you choose. Travel to Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park with a few stops along the way for refreshments, a camel ride (own expense) and a chance to purchase Aboriginal paintings. (For those commencing at Uluru, we will collect you from the Outback Pioneer Hotel or the airport) After picking you up from your accommodation in Alice Springs bright and early, we hit the road for five fantastic days of Outback adventure travel.
